Luis Robert Jr. may return this week as Mets plan to play all four outfielders

Luis Robert Jr. could return to the Mets for their series in Milwaukee this week, interim manager Andy Green said Saturday. The Mets acquired Robert last winter to play center field. He has been sidelined with lumbar spine disc herniation.

During his absence, rookie A.J. Ewing has taken a regular role alongside rookie Carson Benge and Juan Soto. “He’s looking better and better,” Green said before the Mets lost to the Phillies. Green added that all four outfielders would see time.

“All of them are going to play,” he said. ” Green also addressed an MLB memo issued last month that bars teams from using an AI app in the dugout to set strategy. “Whatever the rules are, we remain fully compliant,” he said.

Clay Holmes threw 45 pitches in a simulated game after rain canceled his scheduled minor-league rehab start with Single-A Brooklyn. Holmes is recovering from a fractured right fibula and must reach five innings before the Mets consider recalling him. Eric Wagaman started at first base against left-hander Jesús Luzardo to add a right-handed bat.

Jorge Polanco, acquired to play first base, remains limited to designated-hitter duties. “Right now, we got him back to get his bat in the mix,” Green said.
