Remco Evenepoel Wins Tour de France Stage 15 as Jonas Vingegaard Withdraws After Crash

Jonas Vingegaard crashed near the end of stage 15 of the 2026 Tour de France on July 19 and withdrew after fracturing his collarbone. The 29-year-old Danish rider, who won the race in 2022 and 2023, was transported by ambulance with his right arm in a sling after falling close to a kerb about 20 kilometers from the finish.

Vingegaard sustained multiple abrasions in addition to the collarbone fracture, his Visma-Lease a Bike team said.

Surgery has been recommended and will take place in the coming days. The team's sporting director Marc Reef called the withdrawal devastating and said Vingegaard was in a lot of pain. Tadej Pogacar won the stage, which ended with an 11-kilometer climb to Plateau de Solaison.

Remco Evenepoel finished second and Isaac Del Toro placed third. Evenepoel moved into second overall, five minutes behind Pogacar, while Del Toro sits third at 5 minutes 58 seconds back. Vingegaard had entered the stage in second place overall behind Pogacar.

Vingegaard's teammate Sepp Kuss and Del Toro also crashed during the stage but continued racing. Pogacar's yellow jersey group slowed briefly after learning of the incident before resuming normal pace. Pogacar said after the stage that he was sad to see Vingegaard crash out.

"Without him the Tour will not be the same," he said. Pogacar and Vingegaard underwent unannounced anti-doping tests on the morning of July 19, with Pogacar's test at 5 a.m. and Vingegaard's at 2 a.m.
