An international online platform called Made-in-China settled with the Connecticut attorney general's office on May 6, 2026, and agreed to stop selling GLP-1 weight-loss medications to customers in the United States. Made-in-China had sold so-called research grade GLP-1 drugs without prescriptions or any medical oversight.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The drugs sold on Made-in-China were marketed as generic versions of Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound, but the claims that the drugs were generic versions of brand-name medications were often false. The drugs sold by Made-in-China contained impurities, potential bacterial contamination, and inconsistent quantities of active ingredients.

Inconsistent quantities of active ingredients in the drugs can result in medication overdoses. There are currently no generic GLP-1 weight loss injections on the market.

A KFF poll from November 2025 estimates that 1 in 8 or about 12% of adults report taking a GLP-1 drug to lose weight or treat a chronic condition such as diabetes or heart disease. The KFF poll estimate of 12% of adults taking GLP-1 drugs is an increase from 6% in May 2024. Made-in-China cooperated with the investigation.

U.S. customers. Made-in-China is required to implement a monitoring system that looks for and removes GLP-1 drug listings within a five-day period.

Made-in-China is subject to a penalty of $300,000 to be paid to the state of Connecticut. The $300,000 penalty against Made-in-China will be suspended after $30,000. @ABC reported that if the platform does not abide by the settlement agreement, it will face further penalties.

Tong added that additional enforcement actions are active and ongoing. The attorney general's office said it will not hesitate to take strong action to protect patients and consumers.
