Makhachev wrote that the corner stoppage gave him the final word. In one post he stated, "He who exalts himself will be humbled. " A second post followed shortly afterward. It read, "To quit in the biggest fight of your career — is something not everybody can do.
The corner stoppage marked the first time in his professional career that he did not continue. The event took place on the largest stage the organization has used and drew its largest reported audience. Makhachev, competing in the welterweight division, did not participate in the bout.
