Malians Describe Killings and Torture by Army and Russian Fighters

She spoke at a makeshift camp in the Hodh Ech Chargui region on April 28. About 10 Malian refugees gave similar accounts of violence against civilians. All names were changed for safety.
According to data from conflict monitor ACLED, Malian government operations since 2020 have caused more than 8,500 deaths, about half of them civilians. The refugees said the violence occurred during efforts to fight jihadist groups in Mali.
