Man Accused of Shooting Charlie Kirk Seen on Campus Before Attack

A man accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University last year was seen on campus hours earlier, bought food at a Chick-fil-A and approached members of Kirk's Turning Point USA organization, an investigator testified. The testimony came on the second day of a preliminary hearing that will decide whether evidence is strong enough for trial.

Prosecutors played surveillance video they say shows Tyler Robinson, 23, on campus about four hours before the 10 September 2025 attack.

Movements Before and After the Shooting The investigator described Robinson returning to campus roughly 90 minutes before the shooting, this time wearing different clothes and appearing to walk with a limp. Footage showed him climbing onto the roof of the Losee Building, then running across it and dropping down after the fatal shot, the investigator said.

A rifle was later recovered in a wooded area where investigators believe Robinson entered after leaving the roof. Hours later, Robinson allegedly tried to drive a grey Dodge Challenger onto campus during the manhunt and was briefly stopped by an officer who noted the license plate.

Robinson's defense team has disputed much of the evidence and argued to remove the death penalty from consideration. The defense questioned how footage was edited and noted that some witnesses described a different person on the roof or a bald driver of the vehicle shown in security footage.

Investigators also acknowledged that another weapon was found on campus the day of the shooting and that no shell casings were recovered near a suspected "sniper pad" on the roof.
