Manchester City Confirms Pep Guardiola Will Leave at End of Season
Manchester City announced that Pep Guardiola will depart after the current campaign. Reports link former assistant Enzo Maresca as the leading candidate to replace him.
ForbesManchester City confirmed that Pep Guardiola will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season. The 55-year-old manager cited the length of his decade-long tenure and the need for fresh energy at the club.
“10 years is a lot of time and I think the club needs a new manager, new energy, these incredible players we have right now and start to write another chapter.”
Guardiola added that he would not have the energy required to fight for titles every three days going forward. He described the timing as the perfect moment for both the club and himself to move on.
Reports indicate that Enzo Maresca is expected to succeed Guardiola. Maresca previously worked as an assistant under Guardiola at Manchester City before managing Leicester City and Chelsea. At Leicester he won the Championship title, while at Chelsea he led the side to the Club World Cup last summer.
Guardiola transformed Manchester City during his time in charge, winning multiple Premier League titles. The club must now appoint a new manager for the first time in ten years.
