Manchester City manager says not giving Joe Hart a chance is his biggest regret
The manager said he sent the England goalkeeper on loan weeks after taking charge in 2016 and later wished he had kept him to compete for the starting role.
The IndependentManchester City’s manager said his biggest regret during his time at the club was not giving England goalkeeper Joe Hart a chance to prove himself after arriving in 2016. The 55-year-old manager, who will oversee his final match against Aston Villa this Sunday, made the comments in an interview with Sky Sports.
He said Hart was sent on loan to Torino within weeks of his appointment, after which the club signed Claudio Bravo the same year and Ederson the following season.
Manager’s comments "I want to confess, I have regrets.
When you take a lot of decisions, a lot, lot of decisions, you make mistakes. But there is one regret that I have deep inside for many years, that I didn’t give a chance to Joe Hart to be with me to prove himself how good a keeper he was," the manager stated.
He added that he could have kept Hart and tried working together, saying that if it had not worked out the club could have made a change later. The manager said he has always been stubborn once he makes a decision he believes in 100 per cent, and the club supported those choices.
He noted that handling players who are not in the team is one of the hardest parts of management and said he always tried to act with humanity and respect. "If in that I failed, I do apologise, but it never, never was my intention or the intention of the club," he said.
