Marcos Posts Vlog on Youth Protection After Tacloban Shooting, Cavite Stabbing, and Aurora Drownings

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. posted a vlog on June 27 urging protection of Filipino youth from violence, negligence, and other dangers. Rappler reported that the vlog, titled 'BBM VLOG 282: Proteksiyunan ang Kabataan,' referenced a shooting in Tacloban City earlier in the week that killed three people and injured 20 others.
The perpetrators were two minors aged 14 and 15 who are now in custody. Marcos also cited a stabbing in Cavite that injured seven students and the drowning deaths of Ateneo de Manila University players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a team-building activity in Aurora. School officials, including former coach Tab Baldwin, face an anti-hazing complaint before the Department of Justice.
The president said he ordered the Department of Education, the Department of Health, the Philippine National Police, and local government units to strengthen student safety programs. He stated that government efforts alone are insufficient and called on parents to stay active in their children's lives and on teachers to serve as guides and mentors.
"Magkaiba man ang mga pangyayaring ito, iisa ang mensaheng ipinapakita nila sa atin: Kailangang maprotektahan ang ating mga kabataan," Marcos said in the vlog.
