DeadlineMotion picture marketing executive Gerry Rich has written a memoir titled Chasing Hollywood: A Marketing Chief’s Lessons on Breaking Through. The book is scheduled for release October 13, 2026 by HarperCollins Leadership. Rich worked at Miramax, MGM, Paramount, Columbia Pictures and Amazon MGM.
The text mixes personal accounts with descriptions of marketing decisions for films released in the 1990s and 2000s.
Rich states that he did not keep written notes and instead relied on memories of specific meetings. ” The final chapter was revised to address recent box-office performance of films promoted on YouTube, including Backrooms and Obsession. Rich said the current marketing environment requires capturing viewer attention within a fraction of a second.
Rich describes working with Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Scott Rudin, and other studio personnel. He said some of those experiences provided lessons that he later applied in subsequent roles. He said he omitted certain accounts because they lacked what he called a “teachable moment.” Rich continues to work as a marketing consultant.
“I didn’t want this to be a cynical story. I didn’t want it to be a cynical book.”
