Marxism 2026 Festival Tickets Cost More Than Average UK Daily Earnings

Tickets for the Marxism 2026 event, organised by the Socialist Workers Party and described on its site as Britain's biggest left-wing festival, cost £101.50 for a full pass. According to the Office for National Statistics, the average full-time employee in the UK earns approximately £11.82 per hour after tax.

That equates to roughly £94.55 for an eight-hour day. A full festival ticket therefore exceeds one average day's net pay. The official site states that the cost will help keep Marxism going. Daily earnings vary significantly by industry, region and seniority, the statistics office notes.

The four-day event will include mass rallies addressing major political questions as well as hundreds of meetings and workshops on history, theory and strategy. Organisers say attendees can expect sharp debates, sessions on key Marxist theory, film screenings, live music and cultural events.

The Socialist Workers Party announced that Jeremy Corbyn and Zara Sultana will attend the festival. Corbyn earlier sent a letter to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner urging him to retract statements about a weekend Palestine protest that the organisers said had no intent to walk past synagogues.

Corbyn's letter, signed by more than 30 MPs and four members of the House of Lords, states that the protest route was rejected because another march was taking place. He described the commissioner's comments as baseless and said they contributed to a climate of division, distrust and fear.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police declined to retract the comments. The force said it had to amend routes or gathering points for the Palestine Coalition's marches on 20 occasions to protect Jewish communities. Examples included starting points near Marble Arch, the north of Park Lane and Portland Place, all in the vicinity of synagogues.

The police statement added that British Jews are feeling heightened concern in the current climate and appealed to those organising or taking part in protests to acknowledge those feelings.

The festival programme combines large-scale rallies with smaller workshops and cultural activities. Organisers expect thousands to attend the annual gathering, which has run for many years.

In the letter sent on Tuesday, Corbyn wrote that it is totally unacceptable for a commissioner to make these baseless claims, which malign a mass movement standing up for peace and humanity. He urged the commissioner to retract the comments as soon as possible.
