Maryland Teacher Arrested in Online Sting Operation Targeting Child Predators

A 61-year-old Baltimore City Public Schools administrator was arrested Thursday at a Harford County park after allegedly trying to meet a 15-year-old boy for sex, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Dennis Jutras was taken into custody after arriving at the location to meet an undercover detective he believed was a teenager.

Police said the communications began on May 7 when Jutras contacted the detective on social media.

The chats continued for two weeks and included sexually charged conversations and explicit images, police said. Jutras told the detective he was a longtime teacher at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and later became a coordinator of Advanced Learning for Pre-K through 12th grade.

Jutras was named Baltimore's Teacher of the Year in 2005 while working as a social studies teacher. He has been employed by the district for nearly 27 years and has held his current position since 2013.

Schools placed Jutras on administrative leave Tuesday. Officials stated they are not aware of any impact on City School students and encouraged anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office. Jutras is being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center.
