Ghislaine Maxwell, 64, filed an amended petition in Manhattan federal court Wednesday seeking to overturn her December 2021 conviction and 20-year sentence for recruiting and grooming underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The filing claims documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act show that attorneys for Epstein's accusers acted as "de facto prosecutors" and government agents, violating her rights.
Maxwell cited a letter from a former federal prosecutor describing efforts to assist those attorneys in challenging Epstein's 2007 non-prosecution agreement in Florida.
Prosecutors Respond Manhattan U.S.
Attorney Jay Clayton's office filed a response Wednesday arguing that many of Maxwell's arguments were submitted after legal deadlines and that others were speculative or failed to show an unfair trial. A federal judge delayed public release of portions of the petition so prosecutors could redact information intended to protect the identities of Epstein's victims.
Maxwell is serving her sentence at a minimum-security federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, and is eligible for release in July 2037.
