Menzies Beats Humphries 10-7 to Advance at World Matchplay

World number two Luke Humphries lost his opening match at the World Matchplay, falling 10-7 to Scotland's Cameron Menzies, bbc.co.uk reported. Humphries dropped his first six legs with the darts before holding throw and mounting a comeback that brought the score to 8-7. Menzies responded by completing a 170 checkout to close out the match.

Menzies, ranked 27th in the world, described the victory as one he will take to his grave. The result makes him the second unseeded player to advance in this year's tournament. Humphries had shown improved form earlier in the year by winning the US Darts Masters in June.

Menzies will meet 15th seed Ross Smith in the second round on Wednesday. Smith defeated Kevin Doets 10-6 in his own first-round match. Gerwyn Price also advanced, beating Martin Schindler 11-9 after trailing early in the contest.

Schindler hit a 121 checkout to break back at 9-8 before Price closed the match in the 20th leg.
