Messi Scores Sixth Goal as Argentina Advances to World Cup Round of 32

Lionel Messi scored on a free kick in the second half to give Argentina a 3-1 win over Jordan at AT&T Stadium. The goal was his sixth of the tournament and moved him to the top of the Golden Boot race. Argentina had already secured first place in its group before the match. Giovanni Los Celso and Lautaro Martinez also scored for the defending champions.

Argentina will play Cabo Verde in the round of 32 on July 3 in Miami.

Cabo Verde reached the knockout stage after earning points against Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha said facing Messi would be a career highlight. The 40-year-old added that every team becomes cautious when playing against the Argentine forward.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said the team is focused on the next stage. Messi stated that the squad will prepare the same way for every opponent regardless of standings.
