Meta announced that its Conversation Focus feature on AI glasses will be capped at three hours per month without a subscription. The Verge reported that even paid users receive only 15 hours under the new structure.
The VergeMeta announced that its Conversation Focus feature on AI glasses will be limited to three hours of use per month unless users subscribe to Meta One Premium. The Verge reported the change this week through a company help article. The subscription costs $19.99 per month.
Even subscribers receive only 15 hours of Conversation Focus each month. The feature amplifies the voice of the person speaking to the user through open-ear speakers, beamforming technology, and real-time spatial processing. Conversation Focus runs entirely on the chips inside the glasses and does not require an internet connection.
The Verge confirmed the on-device operation by testing the feature with Airplane Mode enabled. Meta has faced financial pressure from AI investments. The company laid off around 10 percent of its workforce, or approximately 8,000 people, to offset those costs.
It also reduced the price of three pairs of its AI glasses by $80 by removing the Ray-Ban branding. Meta spokesperson Tyler Yee stated that most people will use Conversation Focus without hitting the monthly limit. He said the subscription targets power users who want expanded access and premium device support.
Yee added that core AI features such as voice assistant, live translation, and look and ask remain available without a subscription. The Verge asked Meta whether other on-device features would move behind a subscription. The company did not reply to those questions.
