Meta Spins Out Supernatural VR Fitness App to Independent Company Founded by Original Within Team
@techcrunch reported that Meta is permitting the Supernatural team to form Supernatural Health, which will take over the app later in 2026 after the company ended new content development.
TechcrunchMeta is allowing the Supernatural team to spin off into a new independent company called Supernatural Health that will take over the app later this year. The move follows user protests after Meta announced it would stop adding new content to the VR fitness game. The decision came about five months after that announcement.
Meta acquired Within, the studio that made Supernatural, in 2023 after an eight-month antitrust battle with the FTC. The acquisition was reportedly worth around $400 million. Meta later laid off much of its VR team.
Supernatural Health said the transition reflects a shared belief that the community is best served by a focused, independent team. “Supernatural is being reborn. Same coaches, same DNA, same obsession with making fitness feel like the best part of your day — now under a new, independent company we’re starting from the ground up,” Supernatural Health stated on its website.
“We’re grateful for the platform and resources Meta provided during a critical growth phase,” the statement continued. ” The founders of Within are behind the new company. One user in the public Supernatural Facebook group wrote that many felt the app “was purchased to kill” after coaches were let go and development halted.
Supernatural Health will assume control of the app in 2026.
