Mets move Peterson to bullpen, add Manaea to rotation
The last-place Mets are shifting David Peterson to the bullpen and inserting Sean Manaea into the starting rotation. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the change takes effect Monday in Seattle.

Sean Manaea will take his spot in the rotation. Peterson is 3-5 with a 5.57 ERA in seven starts and five relief appearances this season. He allowed six runs and a career-high 11 hits in five-plus innings during his most recent start Tuesday.
Rotation adjustment details Manaea signed a three-year, $75 million contract in December 2024. He has appeared in 12 games this season, all in relief, and is 0-1 with a 5.56 ERA. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Manaea will either start or pitch after an opener Monday night in Seattle.
Peterson was told he will be available out of the bullpen beginning Sunday against Miami. Mendoza said the move reflects what is best for the team at this time. He added that Peterson remains a professional who will do whatever the team needs.
Injury updates Star shortstop Francisco Lindor is progressing from a left calf strain, but no return timeline has been set, president of baseball operations David Stearns said. First baseman Jorge Polanco is playing minor-league rehab games and could rejoin the team next week.
Catcher Francisco Alvarez is recovering from surgery and may begin a rehab assignment next week. Right-hander Kodai Senga is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday and make another rehab start next week.
