Mets Score Twice in 10th to Beat Diamondbacks 3-1

The team recorded only two hits over the first nine innings before scoring twice in the 10th for a 3-1 victory over the opponent at Chase Field on Friday night. Mark Vientos delivered a run-scoring double in the 10th that brought in the automatic runner.

Carson Benge, batting fifth in the lineup for the first time in his major league career, added an RBI double on a 1-2 slider for insurance. Tobias Myers recorded the final three outs to secure the win. The victory was the fifth in seven games on the road trip.

It followed a strong start from the pitcher and effective bullpen work.

In a rebound from his shortest outing of the season, the starting pitcher allowed one earned run on three hits, one walk and a hit batter over six innings. He recorded six strikeouts and threw 100 pitches, matching a season high, before exiting. The pitcher had lasted just four innings in his previous start.

Vientos hit a solo home run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. That was his third homer on the road trip and fifth of the season. The opponent tied the score at 1-1 later in the inning with a home run off the starting pitcher.

The opponent was without one of its regular players due to a late scratch because of illness. Francisco Alvarez singled to lead off the third but was left stranded. The starting pitcher worked around a hit batter and a walk in the fourth and fifth innings while keeping the score tied.

A single in the sixth represented only the opponent's third hit against the starter. In the seventh, the bullpen walked three batters to load the bases with two outs but escaped without allowing a run. Brooks Raley recorded two outs in the eighth before allowing a single to a player in his first major league at-bat and then finishing the inning.

The team broke through in the 10th against the opponent's reliever. The two doubles produced the only runs scored after regulation.
