Mets Shut Out 4-0 by Red Sox at Citi Field

The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 4-0 on July 11 at Citi Field, nypost.com reported. Freddy Peralta pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed three hits and five walks, and gave up two runs including a two-run home run by Andruw Monasterio. Peralta entered the game with a 6.22 ERA over his previous 10 starts after posting a 3.10 ERA in his first nine outings of the season.

Eduardo Rivera made his first major league start for Boston and held the Mets to one hit through four innings. Jorge Polanco recorded that hit, a single with two outs in the fourth. Four Boston relievers combined to finish the shutout.

The Mets went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position the previous night and again failed in key spots on July 11. They loaded the bases in the seventh inning but A.J. Ewing struck out looking. In the eighth, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor drew back-to-back walks before Carson Benge lined out and Polanco grounded into a double play.

The Mets will play the series finale against Boston on July 12 before the All-Star break. nypost.com reported that the team enters the break as the worst in the National League and faces an August 3 trade deadline that now represents the primary remaining focus of the season.
