Mexican National Dies After Fleeing ICE Agents in Florida

A 28-year-old Mexican national identified as Juan Jairo Coronilla Duran died Tuesday after being struck by a tractor-trailer while fleeing federal agents near St. Augustine, Florida. m. Tuesday. He ran across State Road 16 and into the path of a semi-truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver stopped and attempted to render aid, but the man died at the scene. The Department of Homeland Security initially identified him only as a Mexican national.

The department said the agent had feared for public safety when he shot Guerrero in his car.

" The Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance and Action News Jax, citing the Mexican consulate, also named Coronilla Duran as the victim. Newsweek contacted the Mexican Consulate in Orlando for comment. The Department of Homeland Security had not formally named the victim as of Friday morning.
