France 24 reporters observed one such attempt early in the morning at Gravelines near Calais. A group of migrants tried but failed to board an already overcrowded small boat that departed without them.
Migrants who spoke to France 24 said they were from Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Nigeria, and Uganda. They stated they intended to try the crossing again. The UK Home Office recorded that 392 migrants reached the UK in small boats on June 18, 2026.
The total for the year to date stands at 10,244.
