Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey finalized a multiyear deal to become the new president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, his agent Bret Just of WME Basketball told ESPN on Friday. Gansey, 43, rose through the ranks in the Cavaliers' front office after joining the team in the 2011-12 season.

He previously served as general manager for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA's G League and is a northeast Ohio native who played collegiately at West Virginia, where he was a first-team Big East selection.

Bob Myers, president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and the four-time NBA championship architect of the Golden State Warriors, led the search for the 76ers' new head of basketball operations after ownership parted ways with Daryl Morey.

Myers will work closely with Gansey and assist in his vision for the organization. Gansey and Nick U'Ren of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury were the finalists for the position.

Each had final-stage meetings with 76ers ownership this week on the East Coast before the decision to hire Gansey was made on Friday, sources said. U'Ren has served as the top basketball executive of the Phoenix Mercury over the past three years and held multiple front office titles under Myers during their stints with the Warriors.

Gansey, along with president of basketball operations Koby Altman, helped build the Cavaliers into deep NBA postseason participants.

The team reached the Eastern Conference finals after a 52-win season that included a February deadline trade sending guard Darius Garland to the LA Clippers for James Harden, where the Cavaliers lost in four games to the New York Knicks.
