Mike Trout Expects to Return to Angels Lineup Early Next Week

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout expects to return to the lineup early the week of July 6 after missing 17 days with a strained right hamstring. Trout strained the hamstring on June 17 while running the bases against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has been out of the lineup since that date.
On July 3 he completed his normal pregame routine before the Angels opened a series against the Boston Red Sox. Trout said he plans to hit on the field during the July 4-5 weekend. Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said Trout "looks good" and is "really, really close" to returning.
The Angels lost to the Red Sox 5-2 on July 3. 866 OPS with 17 home runs and 36 RBIs in 74 games this season. He said last week he probably would not participate in the Home Run Derby. Trout is expected to be elected to the American League starting outfield for the All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The 34-year-old grew up in Millville, New Jersey, 40 miles from the ballpark. He is a two-time All-Star Game MVP and three-time AL MVP but has not participated in All-Star festivities since 2019.
