Milwaukee Brewers Release Luis Rengifo One Week After Designation

The Milwaukee Brewers released Luis Rengifo on Tuesday, ESPN reported. Rengifo had opened the season as the team's primary third baseman but was designated for assignment one week earlier when the Brewers called up shortstop Cooper Pratt from Triple-A Nashville. Rengifo started 45 games at third base, sharing time with David Hamilton, who has made 28 starts at the position.

254 slugging percentage, recording no home runs, 19 RBIs and three stolen bases. The Brewers had signed Rengifo to a one-year, $3.5 million contract in February after he spent seven seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. Separately, the Brewers announced that outfielder Brandon Lockridge will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on Thursday for increased discomfort from a right knee laceration and bone bruise.

Lockridge last played on May 8 and is expected to return in late July.
