Fahima Mahamud admitted to filing false claims under a federal child care program and receiving funds from a separate food assistance scheme. She used proceeds to buy real estate and attempted to leave the country after closing her center.
nypost.comcom reported. Prosecutors said Mahamud filed claims for more than $4.6 million from the Child Care Assistance Program between October 2022 and November 2025 on behalf of recipients who never paid the required co-payment. The federal program provides daycare assistance for low-income families.
The center also received over $850,000 between January and July 2021 through the Feeding Our Future program. That program bilked taxpayers out of $250 million and led to charges against 79 individuals. Mahamud used most of the fraud proceeds to purchase real estate, according to the criminal complaint.
Court documents state she claimed to serve tens of thousands of meals each month at the center but served only a fraction of those claimed meals. Mahamud closed Future Leaders Early Learning Center in February and attempted to flee the United States for London two days later. Her sentencing date has not been set.
Aimee Bock, identified as the mastermind of the Feeding Our Future scheme, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in May. Future Leaders Early Learning Center was featured in a December YouTube video by Nick Shirley.
