Minnesota team reaches 7-2 record without injured player

A Minnesota team opened the 2026 season with a 7-2 record after several roster changes and an injury to one of its top players. The team lost five of its eight leading scorers from last season through free agency. A starting forward underwent two ankle surgeries and will miss time until at least June.

Roster adjustments Several players signed new contracts elsewhere.

One forward agreed to a three-year, $3.7 million deal with another team. A guard signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract with a different club. Another forward took a three-year, $3.7 million offer. The team re-signed two players and added others, including a center and several overseas rookies. One rookie tore an ACL and was replaced by a 6-foot-7 center.

On-court performance The team has won six straight games.

A rookie guard has set a league record for three-pointers in a game by a first-year player. "The egoless nature of our team, the everybody-eats kind of mindset," the rookie said. "Cheryl just puts us in positions to be successful." The team plays its next game on Saturday.
