At least 100 people were rescued from floodwaters in Missouri after up to a foot of rain fell overnight in the southeastern part of the state. Governor Mike Kehoe declared a state of emergency covering the central, south-central and southeastern regions. The order activated the Missouri state emergency operations plan.
State agencies can now coordinate directly with local jurisdictions to speed up emergency assistance. Southeastern Missouri received more than a foot of rain on Friday. Dozens of people had to be rescued from rushing floodwaters there.
More than 20 million people in at least 14 states from Colorado to Pennsylvania remain under flood watches through Saturday.
