MLB Issues Four Suspensions After Red Sox-Nationals Incident

Major League Baseball issued four suspensions after an incident between the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals at Fenway Park on Tuesday night, ESPN reported. Willson Contreras and Cade Cavalli each received seven-game suspensions subject to appeal. If Contreras accepts the suspension he will be ineligible until July 11.

Romy Gonzalez is expected to see most of the action at first base for the Chicago Cubs during Contreras's absence. The New York Yankees optioned Spencer Jones to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and promoted Brendan Beck to start Saturday's game after placing Carlos Rodon on the injured list with elbow inflammation, ESPN reported.

Beck, a 27-year-old right-hander, posted a 1.71 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 58 strikeouts and 21 walks in 58 innings over his previous 10 starts.

Byron Buxton remained out of the Minnesota Twins lineup Friday night with a hip issue after missing three consecutive games and is listed as questionable for Saturday afternoon's game against the Yankees. The Los Angeles Dodgers held Shohei Ohtani out of Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres after he left Friday's contest with a sore bicep.

Ohtani had experienced a similar issue earlier in the season that resolved quickly.

The Seattle Mariners placed Julio Rodriguez on the seven-day injured list while he completes concussion protocol after being hit in the helmet by a throw while sliding into second base Thursday night. Victor Robles was hit by a pitch in the third inning Thursday, left the game in the fifth, but returned to the lineup Friday and played center field.

The Athletics are monitoring Shea Langeliers after he exited Friday's game with a left thumb injury; his status for Saturday's game remains uncertain.
