AS Monaco activates buy option to sign Ansu Fati from Barcelona for $12.5 million

FC Barcelona sold Ansu Fati to AS Monaco on June 30, 2026, for $12.5 million, Forbes reported. The deal includes a 30 percent sell-on clause for the 23-year-old forward, who signed a four-year contract with the French club after Monaco triggered an €11 million buy option. The transfer occurred on the final day of the Spanish soccer financial year.

Fati had previously been on loan at Monaco, where he scored 12 goals in 30 appearances. Marcus Rashford's loan at FC Barcelona ended on June 30 without the club activating the $35 million buy option. Rashford recorded 14 goals and 14 assists during the spell, including a free kick in El Clasico.

Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for $80 million, which left Rashford surplus to requirements on the left wing alongside Raphinha. Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United. Joao Cancelo's loan at FC Barcelona also concluded on June 30.

The 32-year-old defender, who had played for Al-Hilal after his second Barcelona loan, could return to the club for free if his Al-Hilal contract is rescinded or for a modest fee.
