Tips cannot be used to meet minimum wage thresholds; they must be added on top of base pay. In commission-based roles, employers must guarantee the minimum wage irrespective of sales results. 70 per week; excess charges cannot drop pay below the minimum.
Workers identifying underpayments may claim up to six years of backpay. The advisory suggests starting with informal discussions with employers or payroll departments. If unresolved, options include formal complaints, trade union support, or contacting ACAS for advice.
Complaints can be filed with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which can recover unpaid wages and enforce compliance. Workers may request anonymity, though permitting HMRC contact can aid investigations. This process provides a structured path for affected employees to seek redress.
