Montrose Defeat Dundee United as Ayr United and Dundee Secure Wins in Scottish League Cup

Dundee United lost to Montrose at Links Park in the Scottish League Cup group stage after Graham Webster scored the only goal in the first half. The top-flight side had needed a stoppage-time penalty to beat Stirling Albion on the preceding Saturday and now sit fourth in Group B. Ayr United defeated Falkirk away through a goal by Kevin Holt after Falkirk missed a penalty.
Falkirk, who had opened their campaign with a 5-0 win over Edinburgh City, now sit second in Group G behind Ayr United. Aberdeen beat Brora Rangers with two goals from Kevin Nisbet, one from the penalty spot. Stephen Robinson's side fielded seven debutants in the match.
Dundee defeated Annan Athletic 5-0 after a goalless first half, with Charlie Reilly scoring twice and Joe Bevan, Simon Murray and Ashley Hay adding the others. Steven Pressley's team sit top of their section. Queen's Park won 2-0 at Kelty Hearts through goals from Aidan Connolly and Jack Hamilton to record two wins from two group matches.
Clyde edged Airdrieonians 1-0 in Group D via a Kyle Connell goal. Kilmarnock drew 0-0 with Raith Rovers at Beechwood Park in Auchinleck while their Rugby Park surface was being re-laid. The side started with no new faces and claimed a bonus point by winning the subsequent penalty shootout.
St Johnstone beat Linlithgow Rose with first-half goals from Kai Fotheringham and Ruari Paton. Peterhead came from behind to win 3-1 against Elgin City in Group H. Partick Thistle won 4-0 at Forfar Athletic with goals from Seb Drozd, Alex Samuel, Dan O'Reilly and Tsoanelo Letsosa.
Livingston secured a 2-0 away victory over Brechin City. Dunfermline defeated East Fife 4-1. Greenock Morton lost 2-0 at East Fife, extending a poor start that included a home defeat to Linlithgow Rose on Saturday.
