Muchova and Noskova to Meet in Wimbledon Women's Final

Karolina Muchova defeated Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10) on July 9 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to reach her first Wimbledon final. Linda Noskova defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal, setting up an all-Czech final. Muchova's victory extended her winning streak on grass to 10 matches.

The 29-year-old reached her second Grand Slam final after losing the 2023 French Open title match to Iga Swiatek. Noskova, 21, advanced to her first Grand Slam final. She had earlier defeated Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals.

The matchup continues a pattern of Czech success at Wimbledon. Martina Navratilova, born in Czechoslovakia, won a record nine singles titles after defecting to the United States in 1975 and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1981.

Jan Kodeš became the first Czech player to win the men's title in the Open Era in 1973. Ivan Lendl captured back-to-back Wimbledon titles in 1986 and 1987. Noskova said after her quarterfinal win that the country's small population has not limited its results.

"There's always just been someone," she said. " Muchova said in an interview with The Athletic that the number of Czech women who have won at the tournament is striking. Noskova added during her on-court interview that she was glad to face Muchova in her first final.

Barbora Krejcikova won the women's title in 2024. Jiri Lehecka reached the fourth round of the men's draw this year after earlier results that included a quarterfinal appearance at the 2025 U.S. Open.
