NASA is assisting the investigation into Blue Origin’s May rocket explosion, Washington Examiner reported. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman confirmed the agency’s role Sunday during an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation. The New Glenn heavy rocket exploded during a test on May 28, producing a massive fireball that destroyed the vehicle and damaged the launch site.
No one was killed or injured. Isaacman said NASA has supplied subject matter experts, supported the anomaly investigation, and assisted with pad rebuild. He was on site with Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp the morning after the incident.
Blue Origin has focused on a potential engine issue as the cause. Isaacman added that NASA is also helping advance the Blue Moon lander program. The New Glenn rocket is the only vehicle capable of carrying the Blue Moon lander because of its wide payload fairing, Washington Examiner reported.
