Earlier Thursday, his family said Busch was hospitalized and undergoing treatment for the illness and would miss the weekend's races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He recorded 63 Cup victories, 102 O'Reilly Auto Parts Series wins and 69 Truck Series wins, setting the all-time record for victories across NASCAR's three national series with 234 total wins.
He competed full-time in the Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing in the No. 8 Chevrolet and part-time in the Truck Series for Spire Motorsports. His most recent win came May 15 in a Truck Series race at Dover Motor Speedway.

Veteran driver Brad Keselowski wrote: "Absolute shock. Very hard to process." Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and children Brexton and Lennix. His older brother, Kurt Busch, is also a NASCAR champion.
