" Busch was using a Chevrolet simulator when he suffered a medical crisis. An unidentified caller told 911 dispatchers that Busch was on the bathroom floor, short of breath, hot, and coughing up blood. The caller confirmed Busch was conscious at the time.
Busch had been competing in his 22nd season in NASCAR's top division. He held 63 Cup Series wins, 102 Xfinity Series wins, and 69 Craftsman Truck Series wins at the time of his death. NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell told reporters that the weekend's races would continue.
"So we're going to honour his memory," O'Donnell said, noting that Busch would have wanted the schedule to proceed. " He also highlighted Busch's charity work supporting IVF and infertility awareness through a foundation started with his wife.
Former teammate Denny Hamlin posted on social media that he could not comprehend the news and urged focus on Busch's family. Busch is survived by his wife Samantha Busch, their two young children, and his parents. NASCAR displayed his number and truck at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the Coca-Cola 600.
