The script logo for "The Finals" will also appear on either side of the court. The series between the Spurs and Knicks begins Wednesday in San Antonio.
This marks the first time since the 2009 Finals that the trophy logo will appear at midcourt. The Finals wordmark and logo last appeared on the court during the 2014 Finals. The league began using the Finals wordmark on the court in 1989, introduced a combined wordmark and trophy in 2004, and featured the prominent trophy logo at midcourt from 2005 through 2009.
This year's version includes a new element: the center court trophy logo will be integrated with the hosting team's own branding. The announcement was made via social media post with no additional fanfare.
