The NBA plans to launch a new league in Europe in the fall of 2027. Commissioner Adam Silver said after the league's Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday night that he and Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum will meet with groups interested in owning teams in the league. Many of those parties will be in the New York area for Sunday's FIFA World Cup final.
Silver said the NBA has received interest from multiple European cities, including some that did not receive formal bid requests. The league discussed finalizing bids for an initial group of cities with its board on Tuesday. The NBA and FIBA announced plans last year to create the league.
"We've had tremendous interest from multiple cities in Europe, including cities that we didn't ask for bids from," Silver said. " "Things are where I hope they would be," Silver said of the timeline, which calls for the league to begin just over a year from now.
