Netflix will add video content from dozens of digital media brands to its streaming library beginning August 3. The material comes from publishers including BuzzFeed, Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines, People Inc, and Tastemade. The deal covers both licensed past videos and new ongoing series that previously appeared on YouTube or similar platforms.
The videos last between three and twenty minutes. They address subjects such as food, travel, fashion, entertainment, design, and wellness. Netflix indicated that additional digital publishers and partners may be added later.
The announcement follows a Bloomberg report this week that documented second-season viewership declines on some Netflix series, with drops reaching 70 percent from season one audiences. The Verge reported the licensing agreement. The Verge's parent company has not yet completed a separate transaction that would bring it under the same arrangement.
