Netflix game uses phone to control character movements

Netflix announced a horror game that pairs a smartphone with a television to control on-screen actions. The game, developed by Night School studio, places a character inside an apartment building during a hurricane. A second character across the street can observe events through a window and communicate by phone. The phone also receives calls and texts that appear on the player's handset.

Phone integration The smartphone serves as a motion controller so that tilting the device moves a flashlight held by the character. The phone vibrates and plays audio when the character receives messages. Players can choose a story mode without time limits or a timed mode that requires locating objects before a countdown ends.

Netflix stated the experience lasts about as long as a television episode. The game becomes available on the service June 30.
