NFL declines to hold 2026 supplemental draft after reviewing quarterback's eligibility request

The NFL announced on June 23, 2026, that it will not hold a supplemental draft during the 2026 offseason. The league informed former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby and all 32 teams of the decision the same day. The NFL stated that Sorsby did not demonstrate accountability for his conduct and cited insufficient time for the league and teams to fully vet all aspects of his situation.
Sorsby had voluntarily revoked his college eligibility before the announcement and then submitted his name for the supplemental draft. The last NFL supplemental draft occurred in 2023, when no players were selected. Jalen Thompson, chosen by the Arizona Cardinals with a fifth-round pick in 2019 out of Washington State, was the most recent player taken in such a draft.
Thompson recently signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Sorsby remains eligible to join other professional leagues such as the UFL. Brendan Sorsby's attorney Jeffrey Kessler stated: "It is a violation of the CBA and the law.
