The NFL informed all 32 teams and Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby on June 23 that it will not hold a supplemental draft in 2026. The decision leaves Sorsby without an entry route into the league this year after a gambling scandal ended his college career. The NFL cited insufficient time to fully vet applicants and stated that Sorsby did not demonstrate accountability for his conduct.
A letter is being sent to Sorsby and the teams to notify them of the outcome. The collective bargaining agreement allows the league to decide each year whether to conduct a supplemental draft. The last supplemental draft took place in 2023 and produced no selections.
Jalen Thompson remains the most recent player chosen through the process, taken by the Arizona Cardinals with a fifth-round pick in 2019 out of Washington State. Thompson recently signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Sorsby can pursue opportunities in other professional leagues such as the UFL.
