Nigel Farage announced on X that he will deliver a statement on his future in public life at 2pm on 7 July 2026. The announcement followed a confrontation with a Sky News reporter while Farage returned from Independence Day celebrations in Washington. Farage told the reporter: "You tell your bosses, you harass my family anymore.
I’ll take these serious consequences. That’s what your organisation has done this morning. " Sky News stated it had not contacted anyone from Farage’s family about the donation story. Farage later called the statement an "outright lie" and accused the broadcaster of having "hounded" his daughter at home.
The exchange occurred amid scrutiny of donations to Farage and Reform UK. Reports showed that George Cottrell, a convicted criminal and long-term ally, provided funding for security and staffing in the year before Farage was elected as an MP. Farage also received a £5 million gift from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne and is under investigation by the Parliamentary standards commissioner.
He has been reported to the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary standards watchdog over donation issues. " If Farage steps aside temporarily, deputy leader Richard Tice would serve as interim leader. Tice previously led the party from 2021 to 2024.
