Nigel Farage will deliver a statement on his future in public life at 14:00 BST. The announcement follows reports that he did not declare benefits provided by George Cottrell, an ally who was jailed for eight months in the US in 2017 after pleading guilty to wire fraud.
Cottrell paid for staff who handled Farage's security and social media content ahead of the 2024 election, according to The Sunday Times.
Farage also used a property near Buckingham Palace that Cottrell rented. Rival parties have called for a parliamentary probe into the undeclared support. Parliament's standards commissioner has investigated Farage since May for failing to declare a £5m gift received in April 2024 from Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based British cryptocurrency investor.
Farage was elected as the MP for Clacton that year. Harborne has donated £15m to Reform UK since the start of last year. Farage has stated that he was not obliged to declare any of the benefits under Commons rules and has done nothing wrong.
