The Nigerian Navy discovered a concealed crude oil storage site in the Niger Delta region and recovered approximately 17,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. The operation took place under Operation Delta Sentinel after intelligence indicated possible theft activity near Ugbokodo Creek in Delta.
Naval personnel used aerial surveillance and drone imagery to locate a large reservoir hidden beneath leaves, planks, wood, and thick vegetation.
A naval spokesperson said the site showed signs of recent theft activity and had functioned as a temporary storage point in an illicit supply network. Personnel handled the reservoir, recovered products, and associated materials according to standard procedures.
The spokesperson added that the find illustrates increasingly sophisticated concealment methods used by those involved in crude oil theft. Officials stated that intelligence-led operations and aerial surveillance continue to improve detection of such activities.
