No Supertanker Loadings Detected at Iran's Kharg Island for Several Days

Satellite imagery from CopernicusEU detected no supertanker activity at Iran's Kharg Island terminal on May 8, 9 and 11, 2026. No data exists for May 10. The pause marks the longest stretch without loadings since the early days of the war.

CopernicusEU satellite imagery shows no supertanker loadings on Kharg Island on May 8, May 9 and May 11, 2026. There is no satellite data for loadings on May 10 from either Sentinel 1 or Sentinel-2. The four-day period without activity is the longest stretch since the early days of the war, @JavierBlas reported.

The absence of loadings comes at a time of heightened tensions that have already disrupted Iranian oil exports in the past. Images captured on May 8 revealed an empty terminal with no vessels positioned for cargo. The same pattern held on May 9 and again on May 11.

May 10 remains a data gap between the available Sentinel passes. Kharg Island serves as Iran's primary oil export hub. Loadings there normally resume within days even during periods of tension. The current pause therefore stands out against that recent pattern.

@JavierBlas reported that the satellite record shows no supertanker movements across the four dates. The streak exceeds any similar gap recorded since the opening phases of the conflict that began in 2022. Earlier in the war, comparable interruptions lasted only two or three days before operations resumed.

The current four-day halt therefore represents a break from the more recent pattern of continuity at the terminal. No official explanation has emerged for the pause. Iranian oil authorities have not commented on the satellite observations.

The silence leaves open questions about whether the stoppage stems from logistical, commercial or security factors. The terminal usually handles multiple supertankers each week. Its output feeds both direct shipments and transfers at sea.

A sustained halt would therefore cut into Iran's ability to maintain export volumes. @JavierBlas first noted the absence after reviewing successive days of CopernicusEU imagery. The analyst cross-checked the May 8, 9 and 11 passes against the missing May 10 slot.

The resulting picture is one of unbroken inactivity at one of the world's most watched oil terminals.
