Former Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard attended an event at the White House on Tuesday where President Trump restored annual fitness tests in schools across the United States. ” He said he has always been a fan of the president and expressed confusion about the criticism Trump receives.

“It’s a dream come true, I’m riding this bliss in this moment,” Syndergaard said of the meeting. ” Syndergaard said he was envious of Trump’s mental sharpness at age 79. He described the president as energetic, sharp and enjoyable to be around. The event featured Trump introducing Syndergaard, referring to him by his nickname Thor and joking that he would not want to fight him.

Syndergaard was one of several athletes invited to the ceremony. Syndergaard voiced strong support for the fitness testing program. He recalled taking similar tests as a child in elementary and intermediate school, describing himself at the time as a late bloomer and husky kid.

“It just kind of hits home to me because I just remember doing all these tests throughout elementary school, intermediate school,” Syndergaard said. ” He said interacting with children at the event, including throwing ground balls and doing pull-ups outdoors, was an amazing experience.

Syndergaard added that being invited to discuss the fitness council as an adult felt surreal compared to his childhood self-image. Syndergaard, now 33, rose to prominence with the Mets in 2015 and helped the team reach the World Series that year. His career was later limited by multiple arm injuries.

He went on to play for the Angels, Phillies, Dodgers and Guardians.
