North Carolina elections officials must use jury duty records to identify and remove noncitizens from the state's voter rolls under a consent judgment signed last week. The Republican National Committee and the North Carolina GOP reached the agreement with the North Carolina State Board of Elections. Wake County Superior Court Judge Jennifer Bedford approved the deal.

The judgment requires the elections board to review records from county clerks showing individuals excused from jury service because they are not U.S. citizens. Officials must then remove those individuals from voter registration lists. The agreement follows a lawsuit filed by the RNC alleging the board had not complied with a 2023 state law on maintaining voter rolls.

"This agreement is a major win for election integrity in North Carolina," said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters in a statement. The RNC has announced plans to expand election integrity efforts ahead of the November midterms, including hiring directors in 17 states to recruit poll workers and observers.
