Norway Defeats Brazil 2-1 in World Cup Round of 16 on Haaland’s Late Goals

Erling Haaland scored twice in the final 11 minutes to give Norway a 2-1 victory over Brazil in a World Cup round-of-16 match on July 5. His header in the 79th minute broke the deadlock, and a low drive from outside the box in the 90th minute sealed the result. Norway advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1998 and will face England next.

Haaland finished the match with four touches inside the penalty area, 30 total touches and 13 completed passes. The performance lifted Haaland to seven goals in four matches at the 2026 World Cup, matching totals posted by Mbappe and Messi. Mbappe recorded two assists while Messi recorded none.

Harry Kane has six goals and one assist, while Ousmane Dembele and Mikel Oyarzabal each have four goals. Haaland has now scored 62 goals in 54 senior international appearances for Norway, at an average of one goal every 71 minutes. Six of those goals were penalties.
