EuronewsAyatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was selected as Iran's third supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts roughly ten days after his father Ali Khamenei's death. -Israeli airstrike at the start of the Middle East war. Mojtaba Khamenei was barely known to Iranians when he was named.
He has not appeared in public since the war began and has communicated only through written statements since taking office. A statement released by Fars news agency on Thursday said the malicious enemy has been defeated in confrontation with Iran's armed forces.
The statement added that the enemy is now experiencing profound and meaningful humiliation both on the military battlefield and in the public arena.
In a written statement on Wednesday, Mojtaba Khamenei said the enemy focused its efforts in a hybrid war on the resilience of the people and on creating errors in the calculations of the country's officials. After Iran repelled the enemy, he said, the enemy now seeks to undermine the resilience of the Iranian people and sow discord.
Khamenei stated that everyone must neutralise the enemy's sinister plans through steadfastness, vigilance, preserving unity and cohesion, maintaining mutual trust, and refraining from echoing the enemy's narrative.
He warned that any action that leads to public pessimism or discouragement among the people should be regarded as a form of assistance to the enemy. Khamenei stated that the system of domination created a garrison called Israel nearly 80 years ago and does not accept the existence of a strong and independent Iran on the eastern frontier of Greater Israel east of the Euphrates.
Iran has not confirmed reports that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained serious injuries in the strikes, underwent multiple surgeries, and has difficulty speaking due to severe burns.
U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said he was likely disfigured. President Trump told the New York Post that he has not had the privilege of meeting Mojtaba Khamenei. He said on the Pod Force One podcast that Khamenei is involved, that they have a lot of respect for him, and that he is giving approval.
Trump said he would like to meet Khamenei and that they probably will meet at some point depending on how it all works out. After the announcement of Mojtaba Khamenei's selection, President Trump said he was not happy and disappointed, adding that he was not going through this to end up with another Khamenei.
Previously, Trump dismissed Mojtaba Khamenei as a lightweight and an unacceptable choice to lead the Islamic Republic.
If you believe the stories, Trump said, Khamenei is missing a lot of different parts.
